The Impact of Climate in Inclusive Classrooms - Influencing the Motivation of Students with Special Needs

Abstrakt

Aim: The study aims to analyze the climate factors in inclusive classes in motivating students with special needs to increase their academic achievements and improve social behaviors. Through a qualitative methodology, the study investigated several dimensions of supportive and open classroom climate on their impact on the performance of students with special needs in inclusive classrooms. Through the suggestions that this study offers, the close relationship that the supportive climate has in the motivation of students in the classroom, especially when different techniques of group activities are developed can be easily seen.

Method: For the realization of this study, ninety-two (92) students/teachers of the "Teachers in Primary Education" program of the second cycle of studies at "Aleksander Moisiu" University in Durres were included and were divided into four (4) focus groups. At the same time, semi-structured interviews were conducted with twenty-one (21) primary education teachers (grades 1-5) in three schools in the Municipality of Durres.

Results: The findings of the study highlight that collaborative climate factors in inclusive classrooms influence and motivate students with special needs. Several issues related to students' motivation have been identified, specifically: their motivation increases during group work, their motivation increases in project-based learning, and their motivation increases in the reinforcement of hard skills they bring to teaching supported by ICT.

Conclusion: Students and teachers also reported that all these beliefs and attitudes directly affect the performance of students with special needs and therefore their achievements. Teachers emphasize that students with special needs are more involved in group work, and some of the benefits that students with special needs have, are: improved communication and interaction by strengthening cooperation and self-efficacy. On the other hand, some of the benefits of project work that parents highlighted are: that children become more social; lasting friendships develop; self-esteem increases; and everyone's values and abilities stand out.

    She is a full-time lecturer in both Bachelor's and Master's Programs covering/operating in the "Inclusive Education" subject.

    Since 2011 she has been a part-time lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences - UT, Department of Pedagogy in the Specialized Pedagogy Program, Master's Degree in the subject "Methods of teaching Mathematics in Inclusive classes". 

    Her research interests are in the areas of Inclusive Education in Albania. She has done research work and participated in international conferences that address the problems faced by students with special needs.

    Dr. Klodiana Leka is an Associate Professor at the Department of Foreign Languages, Faculty of Education, Aleksandër Moisiu University, Durrës, Albania. She graduated in English language from the University of Gjirokastra, Albania. She completed her doctoral studies in the field of Pedagogy at the University of Tirana.

    Having previously served as the head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Vice Dean at the Faculty of Education, Dr. Leka currently holds the position of Dean at the Faculty of Education since 2022. Her research is devoted to education, online learning, teacher evaluation, and the role of school principals.

  • Magdalini Vampa - Department of Social Sciences, Faculty of Natural and Human Sciences, University “Fan S. Noli” Korçe, Albania

    Assoc. Prof. Dr. Magdalini Vampa is Head of the Department of Social Sciences at the Faculty of Natural and Human Sciences at "Fan S. Noli" University, Korçë, Albania.  Her research in the field of "Education leadership" started with doctoral studies in 2010, with the persistent aim of displaying a realistic framework of the leadership model in Albanian education after the ‘90s as well as of the current need for transformation in leadership models. She has extensive experience in the field of qualitative research and its application, to address various education issues  

    She has been a full-time lecturer at “Fan S. Noli” University for sixteen years, where she teaches Methods of Research in Education, Institutional Leadership, and Leadership Skills in Education at Master Programs.

    assoc.prof. PhDr. Janka Bursová, PhD., MBA., LL.M. Since 1988, she has been working in education as a teacher and later as a director. She studied at the University of Konstantin the Philosopher in Nitra, Faculty of Pedagogy in the field of education, later the Catholic University in Ružomberok, Faculty of Pedagogy, field of social work (rigorous and dissertation process). She completed the habilitation procedure at the University of Trnava in Trnava in the field of social work. She completed an accredited education "Supporting young people in choosing a profession, Work with students with psychological problems, social-psychological training, training of supervisors in social work, Bridges of poverty within the framework of the European Social Fund operational program "Employment and social inclusion", Communication skills training, Utilization pedagogical diagnostics" and others. She is a member of the editorial board of Zeszyty naukowe Ostoleckiego towarzywa naukowego Ostoleka 2016 XXX Index Copernícus International ISSN 0860-9608/Scientific journals of the Ostolec scientific society Ostoleka 2016 XXX Index Copernícus International ISSN 0860-9608 from 2016.     She is a university teacher, associate professor at the Department of Chemistry at the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra. After completing her university studies in teaching physics and chemistry at the Comenius University Bratislava, she continually deals with departmental didactics with a focus on the theory of teaching chemistry. She completed her doctoral studies in this field at the Comenius University in Bratislava and in 2016 she successfully defended her habilitation thesis at the Trnava University in Trnava. She focuses her research on the didactics of chemistry, school science experiments and digital technologies in the teaching process. She also deals with the implementation of new modern educational methods in the process of teaching natural sciences for the development of critical thinking, creativity and innovation using digital technologies. She is the author of university textbooks, monographs and scientific articles.
